A recent discovery of mine has been the fact that my family descends from Mary Jamison or "the white woman on Seneca". I am related to her grandson John Green from her daughter Betsey Jamison. This was a great discovery partially because of the fact 23andme located a Native American gene within my sample. It ended up being very accurate in its estimate to where I had a Native American ancestor as Mary had married a Seneca man and her daughter has also married a Seneca man.
My mother's DNA test had no Native American genes showing up, however, even though it said it had been inherited from her. This could just be because the grandparent was so far back it became "watered down" and random in its inheritance.
